All Power to be Restored by Wednesday Afternoon after Severe Storms Ripped Through Northern Illinois
Chicago, Ill. – Power has been restored to more than 100,000 customers in the Chicagoland area after a supercell thunderstorm ripped across northern Illinois on Monday night. According to ComEd, approximately 125,000 customers were left without power due the storm, but hundreds of crews and contractors are working through extremely hot temperatures to restore power to homes and businesses that were in the path of the storm.
ComEd says power was restored to 80% of customers by 3pm on Tuesday, June 14. To help customers who remain without power stay cool as temperatures near triple digits, ComEd has also made cooling buses and care vans available at several locations.
Cooling buses, which are equipped with air conditioning, are available at the following locations:
Westchester Village Hall (10300 W Roosevelt Rd, Westchester, IL)
North Riverside Village Hall (2401 Des Plaines Ave, North Riverside, IL)
Roselle Municipal Complex (31 S Prospect St., Roselle, IL)
Brook Park School (1214 Raymond Ave, La Grange Park, IL)
ComEd also set up care vans, which are equipped with charging stations, water, and outage information, at the following locations:
Westchester Village Hall (10300 W Roosevelt Rd, Westchester, IL)
Lyons Village Hall (4100 Joliet Ave, Lyons, IL)
“I want to thank ComEd crews for all of their hard work to restore power to our communities,” said House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch. “I know that power outages are frustrating, but with this heat, they can also be very dangerous. Please take advantage of these cooling buses and care vans while crews continue to work around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.”
ComEd says all power should be restored by Wednesday evening. If residents encounter a downed power line, they should immediately call ComEd at 1-800-334-7661. For assistance with tree removal, reach out to Speaker Welch’s office at 708-450-1000 for a list of companies in the area.
