Welch, House Democrats Highlight Challenges the Trump Agenda is Posing for Illinois Families
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Speaker Emanuel ‘Chris’ Welch is leading House Democrats in speaking out against the ways the Trump agenda is hurting communities across Illinois. Members are taking to the House floor every session day to discuss the ways Trump’s erratic leadership is hurting the economy, stripping care from families and veterans, and raising prices in red communities and blue communities alike.
“I told my colleagues in January that this is no time to be silent; they are responding by making the voices of all Illinois communities heard,” Welch said. “No one voted for higher prices. No one voted to strip healthcare from tens of thousands of families, children, and seniors. No one voted to cut our Veterans Administration clinics. But that’s the reality we face because of the erratic leadership in Washington. We’re going to keep speaking out and keep fighting for a better direction for Illinois.”
Welch and his colleagues have coordinated to speak out daily on issues directly impacting Illinois families, including:
Reps. Sharon Chung, Sonya Harper, and Amy ‘Murri’ Briel speaking out on the impact tariffs have on food prices and agriculture.
Reps. Stephanie Kifowit and Gregg Johnson calling out cuts to health and safety regulations at VA clinics.
Reps. Will Davis, Laura Faver Dias, and Sue Scherer opposing dismantling of the Department of Education.
Rep. Maurice West condemning federal efforts to eliminate ethics requirements and remove independent watchdogs.
