Speaker Welch Hosts Fourth Annual Capitol Job Fair

SPRINGFIELD – Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch hosted his fourth annual job fair at the Capitol in Springfield last week. The event encouraged jobseekers interested in working in state government to come learn about career opportunities with the Office of the Speaker and the House Democratic Caucus. There was an in-person option where jobseekers were able to meet one-on-one with current employees of the office, as well as a virtual option for those who were unable to attend the event at the Capitol.

“As Speaker, I know how important it is to surround yourself with smart, diverse, and hardworking staff,” said Speaker Welch. “While they rarely get the credit they deserve, the staff at the Capitol make the legislative process happen; lawmakers couldn’t do what we do without them. That’s why I’m committed to building a team in the Speaker’s Office that looks like Illinois and have a strong passion for doing the people’s work. These job fairs help us connect with talented jobseekers who are committed to making a difference.”

This year, the Speaker’s Office has openings for legislative staff, policy analysts, attorneys, administrative professionals, photographers, and much more. Several jobseekers attended the event and provided contact information and/or resumes to apply for open positions. Last year’s event resulted in several hires for the House Democratic Caucus and the Speaker is eager to welcome more qualified staff to his office.

“Every day in the legislature, we have the chance to change people’s lives for the better,” said Speaker Welch. “When we work as a team, we can build something better than any one of us can do on our own. I want everyone who comes to work here to know they are valued, they are respected, and they are making a difference.”
