Speaker Welch Visits Illinois State Fair
Springfield, Ill. – House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch traveled to the Illinois State Fair this week to enjoy some of this year’s offerings, which include horse racing, livestock shows, the Village of Cultures, and of course plenty of delicious fair food.
“It’s hard to believe the summer is already coming to a close, but that means it’s time to enjoy our annual Illinois State Fair in Springfield,” said Speaker Welch. “I had a great time learning more about our agriculture communities, celebrating the hard work of our young 4-Hers, and seeing our iconic Butter Cow.”
The fair kicked off with the annual Twilight Parade on Thursday, August 11th and will run until Sunday, August 21st. The fairgrounds open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight for the duration of the fair. Admission for children 12 and under is free and adults will pay $5 Sunday through Thursday and $10 on Friday and Saturday. There are still plenty of grandstand performances to enjoy including Jon Pardi, Trevor Noah from the Daily Show, and Disturbed.
“The Illinois State Fair is an excellent showcase of what our state has to offer,” said Speaker Welch. “With so many free activities and educational opportunities, it’s an experience the entire family will enjoy.”
