Welch Helps Prepare Local Students for Success with 9th Annual Free Back to School Health Fair

HILLSIDE, Ill. – To help local students and families prepare for the upcoming school year, Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, is hosting a Free Back to School Health Fair on Saturday, July 31 featuring a COVID-19 vaccination clinic, health and wellness resources, supply kits for families, and more.

“As families prepare for the upcoming school year, it is important that they have the opportunity to come together to help prepare students for the year ahead and celebrate in a fun and engaging way,” Welch said. “The Free Back to School Health Fair readies students with school supplies, provides important health screenings, offers COVID-19 vaccination, and features family friendly entertainment.”

Welch is hosting his 9th Annual Free Back to School Health Fair on Saturday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Proviso West High School, located at 4701 Harrison St. in Hillside. At no cost to them, students and families can receive school supply kits for the upcoming school year, with a limit of one per family while supplies last, haircuts, and vaccination against COVID-19. In partnership with local service providers, other health and wellness resources will also be available. Additionally, food, drinks and entertainment for children and families will be available, including band performances from Proviso East and Proviso West high schools as well as animals from Brookfield Zoo’s Animal Ambassador program.

“Every year, I’m proud to help children and families prepare for the school year with health screenings and celebrate the return to school with entertainment and as we continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m happy to help provide the opportunity for students to receive a COVID-19 vaccine,” Welch said. “Being able to safely host the full Free Back to School Health Fair again is a sign of how much progress we have made as a community in the fight against COVID-19. I highly encourage local residents and families attend to help celebrate students as they prepare for a new school year.”
