Welch Hosting Free Document Shredding Event

WESTCHESTER, Ill. – To help residents safely dispose of old documents, State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch is hosting a free drive-up paper shredding event at the Bellwood Village Hall, located at 3200 Washington Blvd., on Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the shredding truck reaches capacity.

“We’ve all spent more time than usual at home over the past year, and for many of us that meant decluttering and cutting back on the old papers we all have stored away in our homes. Shredding is the most secure way to dispose of those unneeded documents that contain sensitive personal information,” said Welch.

Welch’s community shredding services are free of charge and available on first-come, first-served basis. Shredding services are available only to residents (no commercial shredding) and are limited to two boxes of documents per household. Papers should be free of staples, paperclips, and other binding and debris. Face coverings are required and guests must maintain a safe social distance of at least six feet at all times.

“Scam artists have only become more desperate during the pandemic, and it’s important that we are taking steps to protect ourselves from falling victim to identity theft,” Welch said. “My shredding event is a safe way to bring the community together to be proactive in protecting ourselves and our families.”
